Christie’s Online Jewelry Sale Tops $5M

A yellow-diamond ring was the top seller at a recent online jewelry sale at Christie’s in New York, where it fetched $327,600.

The sale price of the cushion-modified brilliant-cut, 24.36-carat, fancy-intense-yellow, VS2-clarity diamond ring was within its presale estimate at the June 14 Jewels Online auction, according to Christie’s. In total, the sale garnered $5.3 million, with many pieces selling for well above their presale estimates.

Of note was an antique natural pearl and diamond necklace, circa 1890, which brought in $138,000, almost 10 times its $15,000 high estimate.  A Bulgari necklace with 25 pearls and approximately 100 diamonds went for $100,800, smashing its $20,000 upper estimate.

A marquise brilliant-cut, 4.63-carat, D-color, VS2-clarity diamond ring beat its $70,000 high estimate to fetch $100,800. Other pieces that performed well included a modified triangular brilliant-cut, 9.77-carat, G-color, SI2-clarity diamond ring, which sold for $88,200 against an expected range of $30,000 to $50,000. Meanwhile, an oval brilliant-cut, 3.24-carat Kashmir sapphire ring with 12 old-cut diamonds realized $75,600, more than double its $30,000 upper price.
